28 Days Later (2002)
The first (and many say best) of the “fast zombie” and “viral zombie” subgenre, that still holds up twenty years after Danny Boyle made it. Fast, smart, harrowing, and a game-changer.

28 Weeks Later (2008)
It’s not the near-perfect zompoc of Boyle’s 28 Days Later, but the action is great, the jump scares are well-earned, and, like the first film, it’s got a great cast. Not essential, but a solid sequel.

All Cheerleaders Die (2014)
A bloody good zombie action pic from Australia and the warmed mind of Lucky McKee (The Woman, May, etc.). Far from flawless but a lot of fun… and not what you’d expect from your normal zombie flick!

Cockneys vs Zombie (2012)
There’s no reason this should be so funny, engaging, and even exciting, but it is. There’s a mad exuberance about old folks blasting away at the undead while the hapless younger generation can barely keep up. A truly underrated cult classic.

Evil Dead 2 (2007)
Raimi & Campbell’s Evil Dead 2 is a wild ride that not only made its mark on zombie-entertainment history but is good enough to warrant repeat viewing. An Essential!

Fido (2006)
Even big-time zombie movie fans may have missed this one. Is it a comedy? A satire? A skewed love story? All that and more, and one of the least expected and most watchable of the “dark comedies” to come out of the genre.
